Indications
Approved fo the induction and maintenance of remission in adult patients with mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis. Approved for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis in pediatric patients weighing at least 24 kg.
How it works
Helps reduce inflammation (swelling).
Drug interactions
Nephrotoxic agents including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine.

Side effects
Abdominal (or stomach) pain, constipation (hard stool or trouble passing stool), headache.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mesalamine, aminosalicylates, salicylates, or any component of the formulation.
Safety information
Vomiting, weight loss, fevers, severe abdominal pain, difficulty breathing or swallowing, a fast heartbeat, itching, rash, or skin redness, or swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, severe skin reactions, bloody diarrhea.
